Boise does Halloween better than you might expect.
You can take kids trick-or-treating at the zoo, drive through a synchronized spooky light show, wander a haunted prison after dark, hit a full-scale haunted attraction in Caldwell, or spend Halloween night at an 18+ party inside the Old Idaho Penitentiary.
And because Boise, Meridian, Garden City, and Caldwell are all close enough to combine into one weekend, you do not have to choose just one.
Here are some of the best Halloween events happening around Boise in 2026.
1. Boo at the Zoo
Zoo Boise's Boo at the Zoo returns Saturday, October 24 and Sunday, October 25, 2026, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days.
Trick-or-treat stations
Costume contests
Face painting
Vendors
Halloween-themed animal enrichment
Family photo opportunities
Regular zoo admission applies, and current Zoo Boise members get in free. Last admission is at 4 p.m.
Check current details and any schedule changes on the Zoo Boise event page.
Good fit for: Younger kids and families who want Halloween fun without anything genuinely scary.
YoBoise tip: Costume contests run throughout the day in different age groups, so check the schedule before you arrive if your kids want to participate.
2. Fright Nights at the Old Idaho Penitentiary
If you want something significantly creepier, the Old Idaho Penitentiary is one of Boise's signature Halloween experiences.
The 2026 Fright Nights: All Ages Night is Friday, October 30, from 7 to 11 p.m. Admission is $30, and the event is recommended for ages 13 and older. Guests under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
Terror on Cell Block 4
Haunted Infirmary
Spooky history performances
Music
Food trucks
Photo opportunities
Paranormal groups and performers
Optional historic cemetery tours
This is not a little-kid haunted house. The Old Pen warns about stairs, uneven surfaces, strobes, loud noises, low ceilings, and jump scares.
Check tickets and current event details through the Old Idaho Penitentiary Fright Nights page.
Good fit for: Teens and adults who want an actual haunted attraction with Idaho history behind it.
3. Fright Nights Adult Night
Halloween night itself belongs to the adults.
The 18+ Fright Nights Adult Night runs Saturday, October 31, from 7 to 11 p.m. at the Old Idaho Penitentiary.
Admission is $30, photo ID is required, and alcohol is available for purchase.
Check tickets and current details on the Old Idaho Penitentiary Adult Night page.
You get the same haunted cell blocks and Halloween atmosphere as the all-ages night, but without younger guests.
Good fit for: Adults who want something more memorable than another bar costume party.
4. Spooky Safari at Zoo Boise
Zoo Boise also has an adult Halloween event.
Spooky Safari is scheduled for Thursday, October 29, 2026, from 6 to 8:30 p.m. It is a 21+ event with guided after-hours animal tours, nighttime animal behavior, and beer, cider, and wine available for purchase.
Tickets are listed at $25 per person, and registration is required.
Check current availability through Zoo Boise's featured events calendar.
Good fit for: Couples or groups who want a low-key adult Halloween activity without going to a haunted house.
5. Meridian Trunk or Treat
Meridian's annual Trunk or Treat is Thursday, October 22, 2026, from 6 to 9 p.m. at Meridian City Hall Plaza.
More than 90 local businesses and organizations typically decorate vehicles and distribute candy, while the event also includes music, dancing, costumes, and live entertainment.
Admission is free. The city encourages a $1 donation per child or dry-goods donation to support the Meridian Food Bank Backpack Program.
Check the latest event details on the City of Meridian Trunk or Treat page.
Good fit for: Families looking for a free community Halloween event.
This is also one of the better alternatives if your kids love trick-or-treating but you do not want to deal with neighborhood traffic on Halloween night.
6. Spooky Light Show at Roaring Springs
If your kids are not into haunted houses, this is a good compromise.
The Spooky Light Show returns to Roaring Springs in Meridian beginning October 8, 2026. The drive-through show features Halloween light displays synchronized with music played through your car radio.
The experience takes about 30 minutes, and one ticket covers one vehicle.
Think pumpkins, ghosts, animated lighting, and Halloween music rather than jump scares.
Good fit for: Families with younger children, date nights, or anyone who wants Halloween atmosphere without leaving the car.
7. Haunted World in Caldwell
If you actually want to be scared, Haunted World is one of the biggest options in the Treasure Valley.
The attraction covers more than 40 acres and combines indoor and outdoor haunted areas. The operator says a visit can take roughly 90 minutes on weekdays and around two hours on weekends.
The 2026 season begins in September and expands through October, with the attraction open most nights except Sundays during October.
Haunted World is at 20031 Northside Boulevard in Caldwell.
Check the current calendar, pricing, and hours on the Haunted World website.
Good fit for: Older teens and adults who want a large-scale traditional haunted attraction.
8. Requiem Haunted House
Also in Caldwell, Requiem Haunted House offers a very different experience.
It is an indoor, multi-level haunted attraction inside a historic downtown building at 810 Main Street. The 2026 season begins October 2.
A typical walkthrough lasts roughly 30 to 45 minutes, and the operator specifically notes that it is not recommended for very young children or anyone uncomfortable with darkness or intense scares.
Good fit for: People who prefer an indoor haunted house over a large outdoor haunt.
9. Shadows & Signals at the Conrad-Caldwell House
This one is for people who prefer paranormal investigation over actors jumping out from behind plywood walls.
The Conrad-Caldwell House Museum is hosting Shadows & Signals on October 23 and October 30, 2026, from 8 to 10 p.m.
A haunted-history tour
EMF meters
Spirit boxes
REM pods
Small-group investigation time
Attendance is limited to 15 people per session. Tickets are $30, and attendees must be at least 15. Guests ages 15 to 18 must attend with a parent or guardian.
Check availability and booking details on the Conrad-Caldwell House Shadows & Signals page.
Good fit for: Paranormal fans who want something more interactive than a haunted attraction.
10. Witchy Market in Garden City
Not every Halloween event needs screaming.
The Witchy Market at Barbarian Brewery is Thursday, October 22, from 5 to 8 p.m. in Garden City.
Local vendors include artists, jewelry makers, candle makers, tarot readers, pottery, plants, chocolates, and other Halloween-adjacent goods.
There is also a food truck and, unsurprisingly, beer.
Good fit for: Adults who want spooky-season atmosphere without a haunted house.
11. Halloween Disc Golf Tournament
Meridian is also hosting a Halloween Disc Golf Tournament on Saturday, October 31, 2026, at Julius Kleiner Memorial Park.
The tournament includes men's, women's, and youth divisions, with tee-off at 10 a.m.
$10 for Meridian residents
$20 for non-residents
Check registration information through the City of Meridian disc golf page.
Good fit for: Anyone who would rather throw discs than collect candy.
12. Hokus Pokus Live at the Egyptian Theatre
Halloween season starts early downtown.
Hokus Pokus Live! comes to the Egyptian Theatre on October 1, 2026, at 8 p.m.
The production is a live-singing, scripted parody inspired by a certain famous trio of Halloween witches.
Tickets start around $24.20. The performance is listed as all ages, although the organizer notes that it may contain adult themes and language.
Good fit for: Theater fans who want a Halloween event that is more camp than creepy.

Best Halloween Events for Kids
If you have younger children, start with Boo at the Zoo, Meridian Trunk or Treat, or the Spooky Light Show. Those give kids costumes, candy, lights, and Halloween atmosphere without forcing them through a dark haunted house.
For older kids and teens, Fright Nights becomes a better option.
Best Halloween Events for Adults
Adults have a surprisingly good lineup this year.
Spooky Safari gives you an after-hours zoo experience. Fright Nights Adult Night is the obvious choice if you want a real Halloween-night event. Shadows & Signals works for paranormal fans. Haunted World or Requiem are the better choices if getting scared is the actual goal.
Should You Buy Tickets Early?
For anything with limited capacity, yes.
Several Old Idaho Penitentiary Locktober events have already sold out, which is a good indication that the remaining ticketed events could fill up as Halloween gets closer.
Boo at the Zoo is less restrictive because regular zoo admission applies, but you should still expect larger crowds.
Make It a Full Fall Weekend
Halloween fits naturally into the fall content we are already building on YoBoise.
Before heading to an evening event, you could spend the afternoon at a pumpkin patch, walk the Greenbelt, or explore Boise's fall colors.

The Bottom Line
Halloween around Boise is not just one night anymore.
You can spend most of October doing something seasonal, whether that means trick-or-treating at the zoo, driving through Halloween lights, exploring a historic prison after dark, investigating a supposedly haunted mansion, or spending two hours voluntarily getting chased through a 40-acre haunted attraction.
Pick the level of scary you actually want.
Boise has options.
